My name is Wayan Mendra  (my friends call me Luka) and I  was born in a  small traditional village called Akah  on the East coast of Bali Island in the Klungkung regency.  In my family I have one brother and one sister and are a traditional rice farming family. To this day my father goes to the sawah or farm.

 

My father is 62 years old and my mother is 65 years old and they never went to school, so had no formal education. My brother, sister and I were able to attend high school but financially were unable to go to university.

 

In order to better my future I moved to Denpasar to get a job. My first job was cleaning a shop for 2 years, then I moved to become a builder’s helper for 2 years.

 

An opportunity presented for me to take on a grounds person/gardener job with security responsibilities in a private house. I then became a private driver for an Australian family, during which time I learned to speak good English, working for them for 4 years after which time they moved back to Australia. 

 

I decided to start my own private driver business by purchasing a 7 seat modern, fully airconditioned vehicle.

 

I am married with two small children and live in Sanur with my wife’s family and my dream is to support my children to get a good education and provide them with a good future.
